Hey Lee’s Summit! Here’s what’s happening this week!
Welcome back to the Lee’s Summit Lowdown! I’m so glad you’re here.
Inside This Edition:
▫ Snow Tracker: How to see which roads are cleared in real-time.
▫ Homegrown Stars & Local wins: Hamilton stars, National Cheer titles, Mizzou football commits, and a LS West Olympian.
▫ Live & Local: Live music and events around town
▫ What’s for dinner?: Your day-by-day guide to food specials at local LS favorites.
Is it summer yet? If you feel like you’ve spent the week in a snow globe, you aren’t alone. After several inches covered Lee’s Summit last weekend, we’re keeping a close eye on the forecast with more flurries predicted for the coming days.
Before you head out, check LSSnow.net. It’s the city’s live tracker that shows you exactly which streets have been plowed in real-time. It’s a lifesaver for knowing if you can actually make it out of your neighborhood or if you should just stay in and have another cup of coffee (or an energy drink, if you’re like me! ⚡).
A Hamilton Home-Coming – Lee’s Summit is taking over the Music Hall! When the Hamilton national tour arrives in Kansas City next month, look for two of our own in the cast:
-
Miriam Ali: Recently featured in the KC Star, Miriam is an LS native returning home in the show’s ensemble. ⭐️
-
Bryson Bruce: An LS West and Mizzou grad, Bryson has been a powerhouse on the tour for years.
Save the Dates: The show runs from February 18 – March 1, 2026. Tickets: Visit KC.
👀 The Scoop: Raising Towers & Raising Bars
From the theater stage to the gym floor, Lee’s Summit is showing some serious grit this week. While John Knox Village is busy getting ready to raise new towers, resident Diane Sisler is busy raising the bar – literally. At 77 years old, Diane went from struggling with stairs to competing in weightlifting championships.
Meanwhile, I’m over here considering it a workout if I have to carry all of my groceries in from the car in one trip. (Diane, if you’re reading this, teach me your ways! 🏋️♀️)
While Diane is raising the bar at JKV, the city is still debating those new towers. It’s a tricky balance between growth and character, and we aren’t the only ones talking about it.
Mayor Bill Baird recently sat down for a one-on-one interview with KSHB 41 to address these exact concerns. He touched on everything from housing density to what the future of our skyline looks like. Could he be a subscriber to the Lowdown? We’d like to think so! 😉

✍️ Help Me Shape the Lowdown
The 1,000 Neighbor Milestone 📈
We hit a big one! We’ve welcomed over 1,000 new subscribers in the last 30 days. Seeing a thousand of you show up in my inbox every Sunday is incredible. A massive thank you to everyone who clicked the “Nailed it” button on our last survey – 100% of you gave us a thumbs up last week! I’m currently doing a happy dance in my (very cold) kitchen. 💃
Reader feedback: 🎤 A few readers reached out this week to say their #1 priority is “slowing down the apartment building” to protect our local feel. With the Mayoral race heating up, this is clearly the conversation of the year. (If you missed it, see the Mayor’s interview in The Scoop above).
Nominations Open: I want to highlight the people you care about. Use our new Community Nomination Form to tell me which local business or neighbor I should feature next!
It’s a big week for Lee’s Summit pride, from the national stage in Texas to the bright lights of Broadway. Whether you’re celebrating those Titan and Tiger wins or just hunkering down to avoid the next round of flurries, I hope your week is off to a great start.
Thanks for being part of the Lowdown crew!

PS – The last Lowdown was apparently a little too “extra.” Between the 8-story towers and the 291-construction updates, the email was so packed with news that Gmail decided to trim the bottom off!
If you were left wondering how the trivia ended or why the email just… stopped, it wasn’t you—it was me. I’ve put the Lowdown on a “code diet” this week to make sure we don’t get clipped again. If it ever happens in the future, just look for that tiny “View entire message” link at the bottom to see the full story!
How did we do in this edition?
-
👍 The Thumbs Up: Read it while waiting for my coffee. Good vibes.
-
😴The Accidental Nap: I started reading and… wait, what happened?
